"Just wanted to let you know I haven't put down the bass since Rick handed it to me yesterday (well, except for eating & sleeping a little). This bass is the most enjoyable instrument I've ever played, and I've played a lot over the last 32 years.
It is hard to pick one thing that stands out... it looks incredible, it feels custom tailored for my body, it sounds amazing and it makes playing easier thanks to the incredible response. It took no time to get used to it. That surprised me, given the innovations in it which make it different than any bass I've owned.
This entire process got me inspired to start seriously playing again, and Orchid is definitely going to make that continue. I can't thank you enough for this incredible gift.
p.s. Anyone want to buy a few Fender basses?"

Storyline (Plot)
Corey loves bass.
He loves bass so much, in fact, that he webmastered the official Jaco Pastorius web site from 2002 until 2007. During that time, he helped design and produce the Portrait of Jaco box set.
He also loves bass so much that he founded No Treble, the site for bass players. He seems determined to pull bassists into the spotlight, instead of making them wear a hat and stand back by the drummer.
Perks of founding No Treble include: he and the editorial staff get to meet famous bassists, attend NAMM, and play with all the latest toys...in fact, a never-ending line of UPS & FedEx drivers delivering amps, basses, effects, tuners, strings, cables, etc. All of which must be reviewed and written about. Tough job.
The problem is Corey had no time to play bass. And his old basses were getting a little stale. So a good friend gave Corey the gift of having a bass of his choosing made by me. After researching, Corey decided to pick a custom Orchid.
"I hadn't seen your work at the time, but I looked over your site. When I first saw Orchid, I thought it was a beautiful instrument, but dismissed it as a candidate because I initially thought it might be too out there for me. I kept clicking around your site and found the video of Monster playing Orchid. When I saw that video, it was instantly a done deal. I wanted Orchid.
I'm still in love with Orchid."

We began with a series of email conversations, seeking sounds he likes. Types of pickups. Neck angle. Playing posture. I tried to get him to consider a 32" scale length, but he was not fully convinced. So I decided to build him two basses and allow him to choose his favorite.
Thus, our odyssey began. READ: FULL ORCHID STORY
