PHOTOS: Chris Buono rips on S2 Vintage Semi-Hollowbody as Keith Carlock looks on (above). It was an afternoon of world class music, for a great cause. Charlie Hunter opened the show on his new Traugott. Absolutely killer performances by everyone, including Oz Noy, Steve Jenkins, and Keith Carlock (below). All photos: Laura Masi
Once again Rick created an instrument beyond category with his new semi-hollow version of the S2 — a concept I [now] have a long, happy history with.
A few changes to the S2 platform immediately popped out including a headstock(!) and a completely comfortable sculpted body shape that reminded me of perfectly cut sirloin from Peter Luger's (I freakin' love steak!) not to mention f-holes. Well, sorta "f" shaped holes, just Rick style — HA!
The standout was Rick's new proprietary Advantage Neck Profile™. This was my first foray and I loved it. It takes the other Toone profiles I've played a step further. Total home run there.
Finally, this was my first time playing finalized versions of the DiMarzio pickups Sensei Blucher and Corpus came up with. This was especially satisfying given the time Rick and I have put in together carefully listening to the most minute details. Needless to say, all the work was well worth it. The pups are AMAZING. As is the guitar. So much so, once again a Toone was put in my hands, sight unseen, and played on a gig with some of the world's most ridiculous musicians and it didn't let me down. Better yet, I didn't let the guitar down :)
