Sebastian emailed me, in pain. Neck, shoulders, spine. Fretting hand wrist. He keeps himself in excellent health, practices yoga, but noticed his guitar playing sessions brought increasingly short due to discomfort.
Could I help?
Asked if he could send me some videos of his playing, so I could study his posture. Immediately, two impressions: I really liked his playing...one of those rare guitarists who causes me to feel a direct emotional connection with his music.
Surprise! He's left-handed.
I'd never built a left-handed guitar. Every aspect of this design and build would be like working while looking into a mirror.
Step-by-step, I proceeded slowly, thinking (and re-thinking) each cut, each piece. Even so, I still made mistakes: had to replace one of the carbon fiber body panels, and cut the string slots backwards on the nut. Unexpectedly fun challenge to find myself in the beginner's mindset once again.
