I'm delighted to announce a collaboration between my friend, guitarist Killick Hinds, and the phenomenal bassist, Michael Manring. Jamie DeRevere joins them on drums.
The trio (Vectrexcentricity) will be recording September 27th at The Glow Recording Studio, Athens, Georgia. Album to be called: Lifelike Boy Android.
Studio session will be followed by two live performances, where they will concentrate on spontaneous interaction with fretless and fretted instruments:
Hapeville (Atlanta, GA)
Wednesday, September 28th
Thursday, September 29th
This could be a dynamic and inspired pairing. Killick is very clever and often witty in his playing, counterpoint to Manring's fluidity. Excited to witness their chemistry.
Manring was a student of Jaco Pastorius and played frequently with Michael Hedges (another trickster) — both artists also known for pushing boundaries in instrumental approach.
Alex De Grassi's A Windham Hill Retrospective has been a constant companion in my shop through the years. I've worn a deep groove in the AAC file. Michael Manring appears on "Clockwork" and his bass line through that song continues to surprise me...
Windham Hill was an absolutely wonderful record label, producing so many of my favorite artists: Daniel Hecht, Alex De Grassi, William Ackerman, Michael Hedges, George Winston, and Michael Manring.
