VIDEO: Brad Macchioni test flies the eight.
The guitar is awesome, and the guy's clearly not a bad player. It's hard finding good 8-string players and most would probably do a bunch of low djenty recycled Meshuggah stuff which...yeah, would let me know how the 8th string sounds...but is equally unenlightening about the guitar overall...I really, really need to try that neck! I think the Universe has a mischievous smile watching me complete this eight string guitar.
An inspired brainstorm leading to Tosin Abasi's Blur launched a two year R&D odyssey in pursuit of the perfect eight string neck machined entirely from solid aircraft aluminum. It's here. Arrived.
I guess you could count the cost in terms of tens of thousands of dollars invested, relationships severed, a list of bruised egos: failed machinists, machine shops, CAD engineers, and prototypes. But I see only a symbol...
Bart Townsend never once took his eye off the target as we maintained our connection across time, distance, money, and emotional landscapes to safely land this neck invention on the flight deck. Perhaps it's no coincidence this present moment comes, in Texas, right here in his machine shop.
Bart...thank you for always believing.
That neck is really incredible. I am impressed by how that has evolved from your initial prototype. All of your hardware components come together to create a single system. It may just be a semantic distinction, but I believe your precision engineered musical instruments are more than just "guitars".
I can see how the body design will appeal to more guitar players. Guitar players tend to be more conservative on the whole. Personally, I prefer your earlier prototypes that look like hunks of driftwood. (WDF via email)
