Javier & Tosin returned to Los Angeles from their challenging Animals As Leaders tour to more frustration:
Hey Rick, I have some unfortunate news. Upon arriving home from tour we found out our house has been robbed while we were gone. They have taken 10 guitars and one of them being Viceroy. I'm so upset with the news.
They have taken several other items including amps, keyboards, and even my car. I'm so sorry that I currently don't have the guitar. We are hoping it will surface online and I'll get it back. We are posting about it on our facebook page literally as I'm sending you this email. Wanted to inform you first before posting.
— Javier Reyes
Viceroy was built as a personal gift to Javier. Bart Townsend, Bill Goldy, and Tom Pilant machined the beautiful purple prototype hardware on the guitar. Steve Blucher wound the custom DiMarzio pickups.
I feel sad. Kicked in the stomach.
My memory is many happy hours in the shop working on this guitar in secret. I'd returned home from NAMM ready to build, coordinating materials while enroute — hugely excited to be collaborating with the crew above plus scheming with Tosin. All of us working together to surprise Javier!
What really hurts is the guitar has a uniquely beautiful organic voice designed to complement Tosin's Blur guitar. They are a matched pair, and intended to record together. We've all been anticipating hearing both instruments interacting on upcoming studio sessions.
There really is no way to replace an instrument like this. Perhaps it will resurface. Many famous pieces of art are stolen but reappear later, adding to the mystique. At some point, the thieves will attempt to turn it into cash.
If you spot the guitar please contact one of us.
