For almost two years this beautiful claro walnut Orchid prototype has seen extensive use as a demo instrument.
The bass has helped tremendously as a test platform for development, evaluation, and refinement of technologies I've been exploring: Trapezoid Neck Profile™, partial-fret fingerboard, neck core, and TOONE & TOWNSEND bass bridges.
But now she has a new owner, a permanent home. Retrofit time.
The client wanted a few changes, including full frets to better match his playing style. Action set-up for DADG tuning (with a very light finger style touch).
Refinished the bass to a satin sheen. Added a 500K potentiometer to open the highs on the Alumitone pickup. Incise carved my signature and build date. Black tuners to fully complement the aesthetic.
Most importantly, the original bridge is replaced by TOONE & TOWNSEND bridges. The tonal improvement from that singular change is quite intense. Organic, revealing the tonewoods. Clearly audible upper harmonics. Deeper fundamentals, thump, attack. Sustain. Essentially: hi-fi.
I'm really proud of the patented Intonation Cantilever Bridges — for the first time I am hearing acoustically from this bass what my ears have been desiring as both musician and luthier. The instrument reaches closer to full potential.
