Bespoke musical instruments need appropriate protection. An outer shell to absorb damage and provide a home for the fine art living within. This is especially true when nearly everything I build leaves my shop to begin a journey of thousands of miles. Across continents, and oceans. Time zones.
Climates.
New Jersey is considered temperate. We are in the Kittatinny Mountains in northwestern New Jersey, about 1.5 hours from the Atlantic Ocean. The difference in rising elevation is substantial enough our seasonal lag — temperature and vegetation change — is approximately two weeks behind Philadelphia, an hour's drive south. For example, we will often have snow when the central portion of our state receives rain.
So when an instrument arrives in Scandinavia, Thailand, UK, or another region of the USA — this vast landmass of swamps, plains, deserts and mountains — it is important to acclimate to the new environment. A good case will smooth these abrupt transitions, giving the intricate balance of interlocking wood and metal systems time to adjust.
Please always keep your instrument in its case unless actually playing.
Starfish for example has lived in a Calzone flight case since 1993, and remains in pristine condition due to Goran's excellent care as well as the protection of the case itself. All of my instruments are non-standard sizes or shapes, and require custom fitted cases. So much so, I tend to think of the case and the instrument as a pair.
Skele settles his bones in his new home, an
ATA Calzone flight case with a striking plush purple lining fit for a pirate. Ruggedly built with plated steel latches, corners, full length piano hinge and reinforcing aluminum edges protecting 7-ply wood/abs laminate construction. The guitar itself floats in a 5.5" thick bed of foam, precisely fitted to a template I provided Calzone. Photo below (click to enlarge).
Calzone cases are built in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA.
They have a lifetime warranty.
Craftsmanship is excellent, and the case arrived at my door in less than three weeks. Linda Tilson (Pro Tour Manager) is my liaison, and she's an absolute pleasure to work with. Contact her @ 800.243.5152
