Colbert started a fire. Wired is carrying the torch. Just a few comments, so far. Perhaps add yours?
Have a nice extended lunch...

Rush in the Schlock and Snore Hall of Shame? Why bother or waste time? The greatest testimony to one's achievements are not plaques on a wall or statues built (just as Saddam or Stalin). The greatest testimony is how one influences others, and Rush have that in abundance that few can match (e.g. Kraftwerk, the Beatles, and scant others).
First, "Halls of Fame" are selfcongratulatory nonsense intended to sell merchandise. Why else do you find shirts and hats at sports halls and CD compilations in stores after the Schlock and Snore ceremonies?
Second, there are no criteria for the Schlock and Snore except one: Does Jann Weiner like the group? That coke-snorting, payola-taking editor of Dullard Stone has openly said "No prog rock will ever get in." Bribery would be the only way in.
Third, music should be about pushing boundaries, not resting on laurels, about travelling the road less taken and mapping new territory, as Rush have always done. Those deciding on who gets in the "official Hall" are those who have never been anyway, sticking to the safety of the easy way.
If the Schlock and Snore building collapsed with its members inside, I'd go there as fast as I could and drive a bulldozer - not to remove rubble for a rescue, but to level what was left and prevent a rescue.
If you want a real tribute to bands, rather than a "hall of fame", make a new version of the "rock music family tree" books: list bands by influences, how many bands have been affected in some way. Those with the widest influence and caused the greatest change get in.
