I really enjoyed watching the Republicans squirm, as the DNC played the race card. I equally enjoy watching the Democrats squirm, as the GOP trumps with the gender card.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Bet the DNC wishes they had played the gender card, too.
A card game is the inevitable result, with both parties crafted by special interest groups.
Perhaps it is time to return to the Constitution.
The United States Constitution is an elegant set of principles for effective governance of our Republic. It creates philosophical freedom within our borders for citizens to pursue individual rights to life, liberty, and happiness.
Essentially, a neutral yet fertile soil for each of us to grow our own garden.
Over time, however, unintended — and unconstitutional — layers of bureaucracy have been added to our political structure by people wanting to use the leverage of government for their own ends: to help others (altruism), or to help themselves (selfishness).
Essentially, to bias the neutral soil to benefit their own particular gardens.
One example would be political lobbying, where special interest groups ply politicians with money or favors in order to purchase votes, or draft laws benefitting their specific needs: business, religion, race, gender, etc.
(society of red-headed ergonomic luthiers, anyone?)
Over time, again, the unintended — and unconstitutional — consequence is special interest groups wield power equal to or greater than our government. Then compete amongst themselves for power.
And the political parties adapt by choosing candidates most likely to be seen favorably by favorite special interest groups...and the population demographic those groups represent. Each party tries to build the perfect candidate in a game of special interest Mr. Potato Head.
Or Mrs. Potato Head.
The solution?
Prune the bush of government back to its original intent. Strip away the lobbyists. Strip away the Federal Reserve. Essentially return our soil to neutral.
(catch my puns?)
It will benefit all of us — because special interest groups can then apply their money directly to helping others or to helping themselves, without the resource-consuming drag of indirectly influencing outcomes through government manipulation.
The rest of the world will thank us, as well.
